Josh and April are Married!

Hi Everyone!! Welcome (or welcome BACK) to my blog! Today's stunning wedding is none other than April and Josh's amazing Downtown Willow Glen wedding! These two decided to get married on February 28th, and, in Northern California, you honestly have NO IDEA what kind of weather you are going to get at the end of February! While discussing photo ideas with April and Josh, we talked about the possibility of rain....and I told them, from my experience, rain might make things a little wet (OBVIOUSLY), BUT it also makes photos super fun and totally unique!!

April and Josh WENT FOR IT, bought super cute umbrellas for their bridal party, and when it started to POUR DOWN RAIN right when we were taking bridal party photos in Downtown Willow Glen, it turned into a super fun (albeit slightly COLD) experience! Props to their bridal party for not only hanging in there, but having huge smiles on their faces the whole time!

Some things that stuck out to me that made Josh and April's day really special: they held the wedding ceremony at the church April grew up in! What a pretty building, and probably filled with tons of memories for April (now she can add "Getting Married There" to the top of the list!).  April's father officiated the ceremony (after walking her down the aisle), which always makes me tear up.... Also, about one month before the wedding, April and Josh had to last-minute CHANGE VENUES for their reception! If anyone out there has planned a wedding, you probably just felt a twinge of sympathy-stress from just hearing that. BUT, they handled it all with SO much grace, and everything turned out beautifully.

The last but most important thing that was special for me to see, is how wonderfully in love these two are, and how happy they were on this day! *sigh* This is a special couple, and I can't wait to see what they will do together in this life.

Josh and April, thanks again for letting me photograph your wedding! What a special special day it was!!

Mary and Justin are Married!

Hello Everyone! I took a little break from blogging during January AND February, but I am back in full force with Justin and Mary's wedding!! You've seen these two faces before, as I took their engagement photos this past summer. They had the PERFECT Downtown San Jose wedding ceremony and reception, starting at the Fairmont (ALWAYS classy!), then walking one block over to the absolutely stunning Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph, and THEN ending the night at the fabulous Morton's Steakhouse, also just a few blocks away.

Justin and Mary decided to just invite family and super close friends for their ceremony and reception, and I thought it made the wedding wonderfully intimate, unique, and just downright FUN! Each and every wedding day is special, and these are the things that I thought made this day special: Mary is one of eleven children in her family, and they are obviously a tight-knit, loving, fun, and goofy family! How else would I have convinced them to RUN THROUGH DOWNTOWN SAN JOSE to get the T-Rex picture that Justin and Mary were down for?? We got TONS of stares, but the Cordes family was very far from being embarrassed or shy about the theatrical picture. Now THAT is an awesome family!!! Another thing that made this special for me personally is my friendship with Justin. I have known this guy for a looooong time, and how HAPPY was I to see him pledge his life and love to someone who is as amazing and wonderful as he is?

Justin and Mary! Thank you sooo much for letting me be there, and capture this day for you. You two are obviously going to have a long and wonderful marriage, because you are the sweetest, most giving couple I know. Hope you're having a wonderful time setting up your home in Austin!!! Watch out for anymore dinosaurs!!!

Special SHOUTOUT to I6 Graphics for their work on Justin and Mary's T-Rex photo!

SPECIAL THANKS to I6 Graphics for their work on this T-Rex photo!

April and Josh are Engaged!

Hi there again!! Hold onto your pants, because this engagement shoot was a WONDERFUL breath of fresh air for me! April and Josh told me they wanted to do their engagement session in Downtown San Jose, and immediately I was excited to do some AWESOME urban shoot stuff with them!

When I heard that they wanted to do some pictures in front of specific buildings I thought...WOW, they really know Downtown! I've lived here my whoooole life and I can barely navigate around there when I'm driving......BUT, it just so happens that Josh is an architect, and that's why he's so into the buildings down there! I felt like I was getting a prime architecture tour during our shoot! Interesting buildings can add so much to a photo shoot, and I was STOOOOKED to use buildings like the Museum of Art, and San Jose City Hall for some of our shots.

April and Josh just happen to be the sweetest, cutest couple EVER...so that adds a lot too!! ;D THANKS SO MUCH for letting me be a part of your story you guys! I can't wait for your really really special day in February. Being married is the BEST!!!

Thanks for stopping by and taking a look! Have an AMAZING Christmas, and Happy New Year!

Brian and Sarah are Engaged!

Hi Everyone! Let me introduce you to Brian and Sarah...the sweetest couple ever. We had such a great time galavanting around Saratoga together!! Which is super appropriate, because they are getting married at Saratoga Springs in June! We started off the day at Picchetti Winery, shared a bottle of wine, and took some aaawesome pictures. THEN we went to Downtown Saratoga....where we caught the beginning of the Giants game at the Bank :) Of COURSE the LAST game of the World Series was on the day we had scheduled the engagement shoot!

Sarah and Brian are obviously super cute together....I am so stoked for their wedding, and I am sooo happy for them!! Thanks for letting me be a part of your story guys!

Justin and Mary are Engaged!

Hello online world!! I am SOOO happy to share this wonderful engagement shoot with you. I have known Justin for quite some time....let's just say, he knows me from way back in my Junior High years!! LOTS of acne and awkward outfits...woohoo! Needless to say, we have both grown out of our awkward years (a while ago), and now Justin is marrying a beautiful, amazing woman named Mary!

I love their whole relationship, and especially because I got to be there the night they met. Let's just say, I take partial credit for them starting to date.....we were all at a wedding (SARA TIMM!), we danced, we laughed, we played pool at a local bar later...and BAM! Sparks and fluttery heart feelings were flying everywhere! I asked Justin how it was going with Mary a LOT after that night, and was crazy excited when they started officially dating!

Justin and Mary have had a long distance relationship for SO long, and I am happy for them that soon, they will be distant NO LONGER. In a few months, they will be married, and then Mary will move out to Austin to be with Justin.

Can't wait for your wedding, you guys!! Thanks so much for letting me be a part of your story!

Thanks again Justin and Mary! Can't wait for December!

A Little Bit of Style and Love

Hello again! Today I have the most wonderful privilege of presenting a styled bridal shoot I did a few weeks back. It was AWESOME to be able to work with the wonderful Nikol, of Nikol Elaine Makeup Artistry, and Yesenia, of Smoke & Mirrors Salon. It was my first time working with Yesenia, and she made my model Kelsey look incredible.

When discussing with my friend Teresa Raabe (who owns her own online business called My Utmost, that sells engagement rings, bouquets, and all kinds of bridal accessories) we really wanted to do something classic and woodsy, but also something SUPER funky! Since colored wedding dresses are what it's all about these days, we decided to add a little twist to it: how about an aqua green bridal gown?? Teresa pulled out this AMAZING vintage dress and I almost died! She also found this WHO KNOWS HOW OLD IT IS bridal headpiece, and we just had to use them.

The bouquets you see were also made by the fabulous Teresa, both hand made from glass, metal, brooches, and woodsy wonderful things!

Thank you SO much to everyone who helped out on this, especially Kelsey, my amazing model. You have so much personality and spunk, photographing you was a breeeeeze!!!!

A HUGE Thank You again to everyone who helped make this shoot beautiful, wonderful, funky, feminine, and creative!

Katie and Kevin are Engaged!

It's safe to say I know this couple prettyyyyy well. Ever since the wonderful year of 1985, I have experienced life with my crazy awesome brother Kevin! And a few years ago, an amazing girl named Katie came walking into his life. My husband and I joke with them that someday when we have kids, we're going to drop them off at Katie and Kevin's house for homeschooling, because let's face it....Katie and Kevin are both waaaaay smarter than us!!! Katie is getting her PhD at Stanford University in Chemical Engineering, and my brother is a high-level programmer for Apple. It doesn't really get much better than that! SO, my kids will receive the best schooling ever...and in return, I'll take their family pictures every year. THAT'S a fair trade, right???

I remember meeting Katie for the first time and thinking, OH MY GOSH, this girl is perfect for Kevin!! She's smarter than he is (sorry Kev!), she wins most of their fact-check battles, AND she totally gets his quirky sense of humor (which I also have). I am so beyond thrilled for them, and am SO excited to see little Kevins running around someday! (No pressure Katie!) My brother is going to make the best husband ever; he's patient, kind, understanding, hard working, and he can laugh about all of the crazy things that life throws his way.

CONGRATULATIONS Katie and Kevin! I love you both, and can't wait for your wedding day! OH, and if I didn't mention this before, they're getting married on PI DAY! (For those of you who didn't pay attention in math, the number Pi is 3.1415....and it goes on and on. Katie and Kevin are getting married on a date that only happens ONCE a Century!!! 3.14.15. SO COOL! And nerdy....) ;)

Lynn & Jeff Are Married!

Hi Everyone!! Let me introduce you to Lynn and Jeff. The sweetest couple EVER. Lynn and Jeff have been planning on getting married for a while...but things kept on happening to delay them!! The DAY that Jeff proposed to Lynn (in front of a whole bunch of excited French tourists taking pictures and clapping) Jeff had to go to the hospital because of a massive headache. He was diagnosed with a brain tumor, and had to receive surgery for it...Lynn's running joke was: "Jeff proposed to me, and THEN he had to get his HEAD examined!". A few more things happened to delay their marriage involving Jeff's health, but Lynn and Jeff stuck it out like champs!! They are even able to joke around (all in good fun) about these complications.

I got to see Lynn's cheerfulness in the face of delays on her wedding day! The key magically disappeared to the room where Lynn was going to get ready, and we were delayed about 30 minutes! Lynn good-naturedly started getting ready on the PORCH, putting her earrings on and doing what she could while we were waiting for the room to open up. Needless to say, it was a WONDERFUL day, despite the delay, full of laughing and celebration! Lynn and Jeff have amazing family and friends, and were surrounded by them all to celebrate their wonderful marriage.

Congratulations Lynn and Jeff!! Thanks so much for letting me celebrate with you!!!

Flowers, laughs...and more laughs!

The Bowen Clan

Hello!! I honestly have been SO excited to share these photos with you of my cousin and her wonderful family! Amy is not only my cousin; she has been one of my closest friends for many many years. We grew up playing on playgrounds, experiencing all the awkwardness of high school, talking about boys into the wee hours of the night...and NOW I get to photograph her, her husband, and her two BEAUTIFUL, hilarious daughters!

Amy and Luke recently (well, is two years ago recent??) moved out into the country to raise their girls on a farm!! They have been working so hard, planting an orchard, plowing fields, and just in general getting things ready for cows, chickens, etc. Let's just say, their daughters (Elyse and Phoebe) are NO strangers to playing in the dirt, haha! These pictures were taken on their property, with a beautiful sunset going down over the hills.

Amy, it's an absolute joy to see you as a mommy. You are SO great at it, and your daughters will grow up knowing they have the best Mom and Dad out there! Thanks for letting me be a part of your life all these years, and I can't wait to take MORE pictures as (hopefully) more little ones come ;) LOVE you!!

5 Things I Loved About My Own Wedding Photos

Hello! As some of you might or might not know, I just got married! I thought it might be fun for my VERY FIRST blog post to talk about what I, as a wedding photographer, LOVED about my OWN wedding photos! Hopefully this might help someone out there who is contemplating what kind of photographer to hire. These are just FIVE things out of ONE THOUSAND things I loved about my wedding photos, as I was lucky enough to have the amazing Colson Griffith as my wedding photographer (www.colsongriffith.com).

#1: THEY WERE FUN!

Colson just said, "Do whatever you want!". Well, we did!

Colson just said, "Do whatever you want!". Well, we did!

It was SO important to me to have FUN photos, that were filled with all of the joy, laughter, and amazing happiness of the day! Colson captured that SO well. I don't know about you, but having tons of solemn, sad looking pictures sounds TERRIBLE....YOU JUST GOT MARRIED, so everyone should be STOKED and PARTYING with you, right???

#2: THE LIGHTING!

Make sure your photographer knows WHEN and WHERE the great light is! Lighting can make a HUGE difference in all of your photos. It can make a photo SUPER INTERESTING or just BLAH. Who wants blah?? The lighting for this photo was PERFECT and we just couldn't pass it up! Colson knew exactly where to put us to make it look stunning.

#3: THE CANDID MOMENTS!

We played a HILARIOUS game at the beginning of our reception...and we got some of the funniest photos of our friends and family ever! Make sure your photographer knows you want fun candids of all the events happening. Also, planning a game or something fun will help loosen up your guests and will get you those amazing candids! We also did the chair dance and got some great ones of me totally FREAKING out cus I thought I was gonna be dropped!

#4: THE PHOTOS WERE TOTALLY US!

Colson knew exactly what we wanted, because he had spent time with us and really knew us. He KNEW that my family would be willing to be THIS goofy...how awesome is this picture?? I will treasure this always and be thankful that my photographer was willing to not just get beautiful, "Style Me Pretty" pics, but he was willing to get the photos that best represented US as a couple, and family. Spend some time with your photographer before your wedding and really let him know what you are about.

#5: THEY DIDN'T TAKE 500 HOURS!!!

This is a picture of our amazing bridal party. THINK about your bridal party when preparing for photos! We knew we wanted to be spending time with our bridal party laughing, goofing around, and enjoying this amazing day with them!! NO ONE wants to be standing around for hours in a SUPER STUFFY tux, taking tons of formal pictures...unless you really like that...then you totally can do that! We took a train ride through the redwoods with our photographer, with champagne and snacks, got out at the top, and snapped some amazing photos!! You don't need to have 300 different poses and settings to get some crazy good photos with your best friends. If you have a photographer who knows what he's doing (which we did) he'll get you in and get you out QUICK! AND they will turn out incredible.

I could go ON and ON about how much I loved my photos, but those are the top five things that stuck out to me! Hopefully that will help anyone out there that is looking into who should shoot their wedding. Thanks to Colson Griffith of Colson Griffith Photography for all of the incredible photos. We are SO thankful for you!
